For Silvana, the co-founder of Hogar Corazón Animal in Moreno, Buenos Aires, Pitufo’s recent adoption is nothing short of miraculous. When she first took him in back in 2012, Pitufo was already an adult dog, around five years old. This fact immediately placed him at a disadvantage: senior dogs are often overlooked in favor of more desirable puppies.

For more than a decade, finding Pitufo the right family proved to be a constant struggle. Hogar Corazón Animal was a small, local organization, and visibility was a major hurdle, especially before social media became the dominant force it is today.
“We were a smaller operation, and we didn’t have the widespread reach to market Pitufo effectively,” Silvana explained. “It was extremely difficult for us to successfully rehome our older residents.”
Even when potential adopters showed interest, Silvana maintained rigorous standards. She firmly believes that the quality of the home is paramount, regardless of the time it takes. “I treat every single dog here as my own child. I refuse to entrust them to just anyone,” she stated. “My priority is always securing the absolute best environment for them to thrive.”

After years of patient advocacy and careful screening, Silvana’s perseverance finally paid off.
On August 9, 2023, Pitufo’s life was irrevocably changed when he met EstefanÃa and SebastÃan, a couple who offered him the loving family he deserved. Pitufo’s new chapter included a cozy bed, two devoted parents, and a surprising new sister—a furry feline!
Given Pitufo’s long history living exclusively in a kennel environment, EstefanÃa and SebastÃan were mentally prepared for a difficult adjustment period. Yet, the senior dog had a wonderful surprise in store for them.
“We assumed adopting an older dog with no prior family experience would be hard,” the couple shared in a video update to Silvana. “But it wasn’t. He bonded with us and his cat sister immediately, like he was always meant to be here.”

Only a few weeks into his new life, Pitufo has settled in completely, acting as if he’s been part of the family forever. His days are now filled with the simple, joyful routines of a cherished pet: walks, endless cuddles, and napping in the sun.
At 14, Pitufo is experiencing the stability and affection he was denied for so long. The sight of this sweet, happy boy, whose face is now perpetually set in a joyful expression, is the ultimate reward.
